System for a solid-state keyboard and touchpad with a single sheet cover for providing haptic feedback

A haptic keyboard and haptic touchpad of an information handling system, comprising:

• a magnet or ferromagnetic insert in a C-cover for the information handling system for alignment of a top replaceable overlay layer magnetically attachable to the C-cover having a key location of a haptic keyboard and a haptic touchpad area;
• a support layer;
• a contact foil placed between the coversheet and the support layer;
• a piezoelectric element placed between the contact foil and the support layer to receive an applied mechanical stress at a key location or a touchpad actuation location of the top replaceable overlay layer and generate an electric actuation signal, where the magnet or ferromagnetic insert aligns the key location and haptic touchpad area of the top replaceable overlay layer over corresponding piezoelectric elements;
• and
• a controller of the information handling system operatively coupled to the contact foil to:
• receive the electric actuation signal from the piezoelectric element placed under the mechanical stress via the contact foil;
• and
• send an electrical haptic response signal to the piezoelectric element to cause the piezoelectric element to generate haptic feedback at the key location or the touchpad actuation location.

An information handling system, comprising:

• a top replaceable overlay layer magnetically attachable to a C-cover of the information handling system having plural key locations of a haptic keyboard and a haptic touchpad area;
• a magnet or ferromagnetic insert in the C-cover to magnetically attach the top replaceable overlay layer to the C-cover with alignment over piezoelectric elements corresponding to the plural key locations and the haptic touchpad area, wherein the magnets magnetically attach the top replaceable overlay layer to the C-cover;
• a support layer and a contact foil placed between the C-cover and the support layer;
• and
• the piezoelectric elements placed between the contact foil and support layer at each of the plurality of key locations to detect an applied mechanical stress at each of the plurality of key location of the top replaceable overlay layer and to generate an electric actuation signal at the key location detecting the mechanical stress via the corresponding piezoelectric element in response to the detected mechanical stress at the key location via a controller coupled to the contact foil.
