Abstract
Certain exemplary embodiments can provide a system, which comprises base and auxiliary multi point power chargers. The base multi point power charger is coupleable to an electrical energy source. The multi point power chargers are constructed to emit a plurality of directional beams. Each of the plurality of directional beams is directable toward a determined direction of an electronic device that is chargeable via the multi point power charger. The electronic device is comprised of the auxiliary multi point power charger.
Claims31
A system comprising:
- a base multi point power charger coupled to an electrical energy source;
- a plurality of untethered, spaced apart electronic consumer devices spaced away from the base multi point power charger;
- the base multi point power charger constructed to emit a plurality of primary directional electromagnetic charging beams, wherein each of the plurality of primary beams is directable toward a determined direction of one of the electronic consumer devices, the base multi point power charger constructed to wirelessly supply power to the electronic consumer devices;
- each electronic consumer device comprising an auxiliary multi point power charger constructed to emit a plurality of secondary directional electromagnetic charging beams, wherein each of the plurality of secondary beams is directable toward a determined direction of one of the other electronic consumer devices to wirelessly supply power to the other electronic consumer device;
- a system controller constructed to enable the electronic consumer devices to be followed by the respective primary and secondary beams responsive to motion of the electronic consumer devices, to allow for a formation of an ad hoc WiGL network comprised of the electronic consumer devices and base multi point power charger, and to repeatedly calculate positions of the electronic consumer devices so as to redirect the respective primary and secondary beams;
- wherein:
- one or more of the plurality of the electronic consumer devices request power;
- the base and auxiliary multi point power chargers are constructed to:
- determine locations of the electronic consumer devices requesting power;
- direct one of the plurality of directional charging beams toward the determined location of a respective one of the electronic consumer devices requesting power to supply power to the electronic consumer device;
- automatically update the location(s) of the respective electronic consumer device(s) requesting power;
- and
- redirect one of the plurality of primary and secondary beams toward the updated location of the respective electronic consumer device requesting power, wherein the electronic consumer device is in a range within which the respective charging beam can cause powering, a self-charge or recharge of the electronic consumer device;
- and
- wherein a charging beam is selected based on an optimum power delivered to the electronic consumer device.
An electronic consumer device, comprising:
- a battery and/or a capacitor for storing power;
- a drive circuit to power an electrical element;
- a transceiver to communicate with an ad hoc WiGL network, the transceiver configured to send and receive charging beams via a multi point power charger, the multi point power chargers constructed to emit a plurality of directional electromagnetic charging beams, wherein each of the plurality of directional beams is directable toward a determined direction of another electronic consumer device, the multi point power charger constructed to wirelessly supply power to the other electronic consumer device;
- a controller constructed to enable the other electronic consumer device to be followed by the charging beams responsive to motion of the other electronic consumer device;
- and
- wherein the device is configured to:
- send and receive charging or powering requests to and from other electronic consumer devices via the WiGL network;
- determine a location of the other electronic consumer device requesting power;
- direct one of the plurality of directional charging beams toward the determined location of the other electronic consumer device requesting power to charge or power the other electronic consumer device;
- automatically update the location of the other electronic consumer device requesting power;
- and
- redirect one of the plurality of directional charging beams toward the updated location of the other electronic consumer device requesting power, wherein the other electronic consumer device is in a range within which the charging beam can cause powering, a self-charge or recharge of the electronic consumer device.
A method comprising:
- coupling at least one of a plurality of base multi point power chargers to a respective electrical energy source;
- spacing a plurality of untethered electronic consumer devices apart and away from the base multi point power chargers;
- emitting a plurality of primary directional electromagnetic charging beams from each base multi point power charger, wherein each of the plurality of primary beams is directable toward a determined direction of one of the electronic consumer devices, the base multi point power chargers constructed to wirelessly charge or power the electronic consumer devices;
- each electronic consumer device comprising an auxiliary multi point power charger emitting a plurality of secondary directional electromagnetic charging beams, wherein each of the plurality of secondary beams is directable toward a determined direction of one of the other electronic consumer devices to wirelessly charge or power the other electronic consumer device;
- a system controller enabling the electronic consumer devices to be followed by the respective primary and secondary beams responsive to motion of the electronic consumer devices, allowing for formation of an ad hoc WiGL network comprised of the electronic consumer devices and base multi point power charger(s), and repeatedly calculating positions of the electronic consumer devices so as to redirect the respective charging beams;
- wherein one or more of the plurality of the electronic consumer devices request power;
- wherein the base and auxiliary multi point power chargers determine locations of the electronic consumer devices requesting power, direct one of the plurality of directional charging beams toward the determined location of a respective one of the electronic consumer devices requesting power to charge or power the electronic consumer device, automatically update the location(s) of the respective electronic consumer device(s) requesting power, and redirect one of the plurality of directional charging beams toward the updated location of the respective electronic consumer device requesting power, wherein the electronic consumer device is in a range within which the respective charging beam can cause powering, a self-charge or recharge of the electronic consumer device;
- and
- selecting a charging beam based on an optimum power delivered to the electronic consumer device.
