Abstract
A novel quinolone derivative and methods of its preparation are described in which the novel derivative comprises a diphenyl ether substituent on the nitrogen atom at the 1-position of the main quinolone ring. The novel derivative is shown to have antibacterial and anti-tumor cell activity.

A new quinolone derivative, the structure of which is shown in formula (I):
- wherein n represents a number of 0 or 1;
- R1, R2 and R3, which are independently of each other, represent hydrogen, a C1-C6 alkyl group, a C1-C6 alkoxy group, a C5-C6 cycloalkyl group, a C1-C6 alkyloxy group, a C1-C6 hydroxyalkylene group, a C1-C6 alkylmercapto group, a C1-C6 mercaptoalkylene group, a C1-C6 alkylamino group, halogen, a hydroxy group, a mercapto group, a cyano group, a nitro group, a trifluoromethyl group, a trifluoromethoxy group, a difluoromethyl group, a difluoromethoxy group, a monofluoromethyl group, a monofluoromethoxy group;
- R4 is selected from hydrogen, a C1-C6 alkyl group, a C5-C6 cycloalkyl group, a phenyl group, a substituted phenyl group, a benzyl group or a substituted benzyl;
- R5, R6, R7 and R8 are hydrogen, a C1-C3 alkyl group, halogen, a cyano group or a nitro group.
