Abstract
A device or a method using the device includes a balloon configured to seal a user's orifice, where the balloon is configured to produce an acoustic seal between a first side and a second side of the balloon in an ear canal. At least a second side of the balloon is fitted into the ear canal. Audio processing circuitry produces an audio signal for driving a speaker in the device and to measure sound level using output from the microphone in the device while the speaker is being driven by the audio signal. The device or method further includes control circuitry to evaluate a seal quality of the device. Other embodiments are disclosed.
Claims19
An audio device configured to monitor the seal between a first side and a second side of the audio device comprising:
- a microphone configured to measure sound from a first side of the audio device;
- a speaker, wherein the speaker is configured to emit an audio signal from the first side of the audio device;
- a sealing section, configured to seal the audio device between the first side and a second side of the audio device;
- a memory that stores instructions;
- and
- a processor, operatively connected to the microphone, where the processor is operatively connected to the speaker, where the processor is operatively connected to the memory, where the processor is configured to execute the instructions to perform operations, the operations comprising:
- sending a playback signal to the speaker;
- receiving a microphone signal from the microphone;
- comparing the microphone signal to the playback signal to generate a seal quality between the first and second sides;
- and
- generating a filter to the playback signal based upon the seal quality.
An audio device comprising:
- an ambient sound microphone configured to measure sound from an ambient side of the audio device;
- an ear canal microphone configured to measure sound from an ear canal side of the audio device;
- a speaker, wherein the speaker is configured to emit an audio signal;
- a sealing section;
- configured to seal the audio device between the ambient side and the ear canal side of the audio device;
- a memory that stores instructions;
- and
- a processor connected to the microphone, where the processor is connected to the speaker, where the processor is connected to the memory, where the processor is configured to execute the instructions to perform operations, the operations comprising:
- monitoring the seal quality of the audio device between the ear canal side and the ambient side for a period of time.
