Abstract
A method and system are provided for hybrid streaming of media content such as video for a computer-based game. In some implementations, a background media content stream includes a background video rendered on a server. The background media content stream is received at a client device. The client device renders one or more three-dimensional objects and forms a composite media stream by combining the background media content stream and the one or more three-dimensional objects. The composite media stream can be output to a display or other external system.
Claims20
A method comprising:
- receiving, at a client device, background video that corresponds to a background portion of a virtual environment as viewed from a particular vantage point associated with the client device, wherein the background video is rendered on a server;
- rendering, using the client device, one or more rendered objects that are at least partially in a foreground portion of the virtual environment, wherein the one or more rendered objects include at least one three-dimensional (3D) object having a position or orientation controlled by a video game user of the client device;
- combining, using the client device, at least a portion of the background video and at least one of the one or more rendered objects into a composite video;
- and
- outputting the composite video.
A client device to perform hybrid video streaming, the client device comprising:
- one or more processors;
- and
- a memory coupled to the one or more processors, with instructions stored thereon that, when executed by the one or more processors to perform operations comprising:
- receiving background video that corresponds to a background portion of a virtual environment as viewed from a particular vantage point associated with the client device, wherein the background video is rendered on a server;
- rendering one or more rendered objects that are at least partially in a foreground of the virtual environment, wherein the one or more rendered objects include at least one three-dimensional (3D) object having a position or orientation controlled by a video game user of the client device;
- combining at least a portion of the background video and at least one of the one or more rendered objects into a composite video;
- and
- outputting the composite video.
A non-transitory computer-readable medium comprising instructions that, responsive to execution by a processing device, cause the processing device to perform operations comprising:
- receiving, at a client device, background video that corresponds to a background portion of a virtual environment as viewed from a particular vantage point associated with the client device, wherein the background video is rendered on a server;
- rendering, using the client device, one or more rendered objects that are at least partially in a foreground of the virtual environment, wherein the one or more rendered objects include at least one three-dimensional (3D) object having a position or orientation controlled by a video game user of the client device;
- combining, using the client device, at least a portion of the background video and at least one of the one or more rendered objects into a composite video;
- and
- outputting the composite video.
