Hierarchical, Zoomable Presentations Of Media Sets

A method of generating a media presentation of a media set comprising at least one media object on a device having a processor, the method comprising:

• executing on the processor instructions configured to:
• for respective media objects, identify a rating of the media object within the media set;
• present a zoomable media presentation at a low zoom level comprising only the media objects of the media set having a high rating;
• and
• upon transitioning to a zoom state near a zoomed media object:
• present near the zoomed media object the media objects associated with the zoomed media object and having a lower rating than the zoomed media object;
• and
• scale respective media objects according to the zoom state and the rating of the media object.

A computer-readable storage method comprising instructions that, when executed on a processor of a device having access to a media set comprising at least one media object, at least one media object depicting at least one subject, and respective subjects having a position within a media set context and a significance to a user, generate a media presentation of the media set by:

• presenting the media objects of the media set to the user;
• for respective media objects, identifying a rating of the media object within the media set by:
• upon receiving from the user a rating of a media object within the media set, storing the rating of the media object;
• upon detecting an interaction of the user with a media object, identifying a rating of the media object according to the interaction;
• selecting the rating of the media object according to at least one property of the media object by:
• grouping the respective media objects of the media set into at least one media object group, and
• for respective media object groups:
• selecting a high rating for a representative media object, and
• selecting a lower rating for other media objects of the media object group than for the representative media object;
• selecting a rating of the media object according to a media object quality identified for the media object;
• selecting a rating of the media object by:
• identifying at least one subject associated with the media object;
• and
• selecting the rating of the media object according to the significance of the subjects associated with the media object;
• selecting the rating of the media object according to a hierarchical position of the media object within a hierarchy of the media set;
• presenting within a presentation space:
• a context depiction of the media set context, and
• an arbitrarily zoomable media presentation at a low zoom level comprising only the media objects having a high rating, the media objects positioned within the presentation space in relation to the context depiction according to the position of the media object within the media set context;
• upon zooming to a zoom state near a zoomed media object, presenting the media objects associated with the zoomed media object and having a lower rating than the zoomed media object, respective media objects scaled according to the zoom state and the rating of the media object, and for respective media objects associated with at least one hidden media object scaled below a minimum scale threshold, a zoom indicator presented near the media object and indicating the at least one hidden media object;
• upon detecting an interaction with the zoom indicator, transitioning the zoomable media presentation to a higher zoom level comprising at least one hidden media object is scaled above the minimum scale threshold;
• upon transitioning to a higher zoom level wherein a media object is scaled above the minimum scale threshold, transitioning the media object into the zoomable media presentation;
• upon transitioning to a lower zoom level wherein a media object is scaled below the minimum scale threshold, transitioning the media object out of the zoomable media presentation;
• and
• upon receiving an ordering criterion:
• for respective media objects, identifying an order of the media object according to the ordering criterion;
• and
• arranging the media objects within the presentation space comprising:
• positioning respective media objects within the presentation space according to the order of the media object.
