Abstract
A brake cylinder maintaining system that combines a brake cylinder maintaining check valve and a quick service limiting valve into a single unit to have lower hysteresis, and thus more precise BCM regulation pressure and a smaller pressure offset. The check valve and quick service valve are coupled to provide a single system having multiple valve seats for selective communication between quick service pressure and brake cylinder pressure on one hand, and between a brake cylinder maintaining pressure and brake cylinder pressure on the other hand.
Claims18
A brake cylinder maintaining valve, comprising:
- a first seat for selectively allowing communication between a brake cylinder pressure chamber and a brake cylinder maintaining pressure chamber;
- a second seat for selectively allowing communication between the brake cylinder pressure chamber and a quick service pressure chamber;
- a diaphragm positioned between the brake cylinder pressure chamber and the brake cylinder maintaining pressure chamber that is biased against a first predetermined amount of pressure in the brake cylinder pressure chamber;
- and
- wherein the first seat is normally closed and opens in response to the first predetermined amount of pressurization of the brake cylinder pressure chamber and the second seat is normally open and closes in response to a second predetermined amount of pressurization of the brake cylinder pressure chamber.
