Abstract
Digital low-dropout micro voltage regulator configured to accept an external voltage and produce a regulated voltage. All active devices of the voltage regulator are digital devices. All signals of the voltage regulator, except the first voltage and the regulated voltage, may be characterized as digital signals. Some active devices of the voltage regulator may be physically separated from other active devices of the voltage regulator by active devices of non-voltage regulator circuitry.
Claims13
An integrated circuit comprising:
- a first power domain comprising:
- first digital logic operating at a first voltage;
- a first voltage regulator for regulating said first voltage, wherein said first voltage regulator comprises:
- a first voltage sensor for sensing a voltage output of said first voltage regulator measured at said first digital logic;
- a first plurality of digital power-gating header transistors for switching a voltage external to said first power domain to regulate said first voltage,
- wherein said first plurality of digital power-gating header transistors are digitally-controlled devices;
- a second power domain comprising:
- second digital logic operating at a second voltage, different from said first voltage;
- a second voltage regulator for regulating said second voltage, wherein said second voltage regulator comprises:
- a second voltage sensor for sensing a voltage output of said second voltage regulator measured at said second digital logic;
- and
- a second plurality of digital power-gating header transistors for switching a voltage external to said second power domain to regulate said second voltage,
- wherein said second plurality of digital power-gating header transistors are digitally-controlled devices.
A graphics processing unit (GPU) integrated circuit comprising:
- at least two power domains configured to operate at different voltages, wherein each of said power domains comprises:
- a streaming multiprocessor;
- a voltage regulator for regulating an operating voltage of said streaming multiprocessor,
- wherein said voltage regulator comprises:
- a voltage sensor for sensing operating voltage measured at said streaming multiprocessor;
- a plurality of digital power-gating header transistors for switching a voltage external to said first power domain to regulate said operating voltage, and
- wherein said power-gating header transistors are digitally-controlled devices.
