System and method for generating a recommendation on a mobile device

A method for generating a recommendation for a mobile device of a user, the method comprising:

• determining a location of a mobile device;
• determining a venue based on the location of the mobile device;
• determining a current date;
• determining whether an event is occurring at the venue on the current date;
• in response to determining that the event is occurring at the venue on the current date, transmitting a first recommendation including information about the event to the mobile device;
• and
• in response to determining that the event is not occurring at the venue on the current date:
• determining a different venue based on the location of the mobile device;
• determining whether a different event is occurring at the different venue on the current date;
• and
• in response to determining that the different event is occurring at the different venue on the current date, transmitting a second recommendation including information about the different event to the mobile device.

A system comprising:

• a database configured to store information about venues and events at the venues;
• and
• a processor configured to:
• determine a location of a mobile device;
• determine a venue based on the location of the mobile device;
• determine a current date;
• determine whether an event is occurring at the venue on the current date;
• in response to determining that the event is occurring at the venue on the current date, provide a first recommendation including information about the event to the mobile device;
• and
• in response to determining that the event is not occurring at the venue on the current date:
• determine a different venue based on the location of the mobile device;
• determine whether a different event is occurring at the different venue on the current date;
• in response to determining that the different event is occurring at the different venue on the current date, provide a second recommendation including information about the different event to the mobile device.

A mobile device comprising:

• a display device;
• and
• a processor configured to:
• display, on the display device, a first recommendation including information about an event at a venue, wherein the first recommendation is received from a server in response to a location of the mobile device being near the venue and in response to a current date matching a date of the event;
• and
• display, on the display device, a second recommendation including information about a different event at a different venue, wherein the second recommendation is received from the server in response to the location of the mobile device not being near the venue.
