The present invention relates to an apparatus, method and system for detecting and locating dental cavitations in jawbones using Through-Transmission Alveolar Ultrasonography (TAU). The apparatus comprises a measuring unit comprising an ultrasonic transducer and a round ultrasonic receiver. The apparatus is a handhold and is configured to define the geometric position of the ultrasonic transducer and the ultrasonic receiver with respect to each other so as to achieve a high-resolution ultrasound image of the jawbone with minimal errors and in order to improve diagnosis of dental cavitations.
1-41. (canceled)
An apparatus comprising a measuring unit for performing through-transmission alveolar ultrasonography (TAU) for locating cavitations in a jawbone, wherein the measuring unit comprises an ultrasonic transducer and a round ultrasonic receiver, the apparatus being configured to define the geometric position of the ultrasonic transducer and the ultrasonic receiver with respect to each other, wherein the ultrasonic transducer is coupled to an arm and the ultrasonic receiver of the measuring unit is coupled to another arm, wherein the arms are connected to each other by a connecting element, and wherein at least one of the arms is pivotably coupled with the connecting element.
A system comprising:
A method for calibrating and testing the proper functioning of an apparatus comprising a measuring unit for performing through-transmission alveolar ultrasonography (TAU) for locating cavitations in a jawbone, wherein the measuring unit comprises an ultrasonic transducer and a round ultrasonic receiver, the apparatus being configured to define the geometric position of the ultrasonic transducer and the ultrasonic receiver with respect to each other, wherein the ultrasonic transducer is coupled to an arm and the ultrasonic receiver of the measuring unit is coupled to another arm, wherein the arms are connected to each other by a connecting element, and wherein at least one of the arms is pivotably coupled with the connecting element, the method comprising performing a plurality of ultrasonic measurements successively in media with different and known acoustical properties and comparing the results of the performed ultrasonic measurements with default values.
