System and methods for generating updated map data

A method for generating updated map data, comprising:

• obtaining first sensor data associated with a plurality of first road signs within a geographic region;
• obtaining second sensor data associated with the geographic region;
• determining a sign matching efficiency for the geographic region, based on the first sensor data and the second sensor data;
• and
• generating the updated map data, based on the determined sign matching efficiency.

A computer program product comprising non-transitory a computer-readable medium having stored thereon computer-executable instructions which when executed by one or more processors, cause the one or more processors to carry out operations for generating updated map data, the operations comprising:

• obtaining first sensor data associated with a plurality of first road signs within a geographic region;
• obtaining second sensor data associated with the geographic region;
• determining a sign matching efficiency for the geographic region, based on the first sensor data and the second sensor data;
• and
• generating the updated map data, based on the determined sign matching efficiency.
