Abstract
Methods are provided for extracting bone marrow cells from bone obtained from deceased donors, for preparing the bone marrow for cryopreservation and for obtaining desired cells from cryopreserved and fresh bone marrow.
Claims21
A method for optimizing recovery of stem cells from cadaver bone, the method comprising:
- limiting warm ischemia time (WIT) to less than eight hours and
- limiting cold ischemia time (CIT) to less than 40 hours,
- wherein WIT begins at the time of death and ends when the cadaver or cadaver bone is recovered and placed in a cooling environment or condition and CIT begins when the cadaver bone is placed in a cooling environment or condition and ends when processing of the cadaver bone for extraction of cells begins.
