Abstract
The disclosed techniques include systems and methods for implementing security cameras with thermal imaging sensors. The disclosed techniques can utilize a thermal imaging sensor (TIS) and a less robust passive infrared (PIR) sensor of a security camera system to monitor a field of view.
Claims20
A method, comprising:
- running a security camera in a low-power mode;
- identifying a triggering event while the camera is running in the lower-power mode;
- recording in a field of view, by a thermal image sensor (TIS) of the camera, TIS data, wherein the recording of the TIS data occurs in response to identifying the triggering event, and wherein the TIS data is derived from infrared radiation;
- analyzing, by a computing device in the camera or communicatively coupled to the camera, the TIS data to determine whether to perform additional recording in the field of view by the camera;
- recording in the field of view, by a video recorder of the camera, a video while the camera is running in an active mode, in response to determining to perform additional recording in the field of view, wherein the video is derived from radiation within the visible light spectrum;
- and
- transmitting, by a transmitter of the camera, the video to a security hub system.
4 more elements
An apparatus, comprising:
- a security camera, configured to run in a plurality of modes comprising a low-power mode and an active mode;
- an event handler of the camera, configured to identify a triggering event while the camera is running in the lower-power mode;
- a thermal image sensor (TIS) of the camera, configured to record, in a field of view, TIS data in response to identifying the triggering event, wherein the TIS data is derived from infrared radiation;
- a computing device in the camera or communicatively coupled to the camera, configured to analyze the TIS data to determine whether to perform additional recording in the field of view by the camera;
- a video recorder of the camera, configured to record, in the field of view, a video while the camera is running in the active mode, in response to the computing device determining to perform additional recording in the field of view by the camera, wherein the video is derived from radiation within the visible light spectrum;
- and
- a transmitter of the camera, configured to transmit the video to a security hub system.
4 more elements
A system, comprising:
- one or more networked computers, comprising a security hub system;
- a security camera, configured to run in a plurality of modes comprising a low-power mode and an active mode;
- an event handler of the camera, configured to identify a triggering event while the camera is running in the lower-power mode;
- a thermal image sensor (TIS) of the camera, configured to record, in a field of view, TIS data in response to identifying the triggering event, wherein the TIS data is derived from infrared radiation;
- a computing device in the camera or communicatively coupled to the camera, configured to analyze the TIS data to determine whether to perform additional recording in the field of view by the camera;
- a video recorder of the camera, configured to record, in the field of view, a video while the camera is running in the active mode, in response to the computing device determining to perform additional recording in the field of view by the camera, wherein the video is derived from radiation within the visible light spectrum;
- and
- a transmitter of the camera, configured to transmit video, over the network to the security hub system.
