Privacy and the management of permissions

A method comprising:

• receiving a request comprising one or more identifiers of a particular user device detected by at least one access point in communication with the user device;
• retrieving a profile of the particular user device based at least in part on the one or more identifiers of the request;
• determining from the retrieved profile contact information of the user device;
• and
• generating based at least in part on the retrieved profile at least one message requesting at least one privacy-related permission from a user associated with the user device;
• and
• sending the message to the user device over a communication channel determined from the contact information;
• wherein the method is performed by at least one processing device comprising a processor coupled to a memory.

A computer program product comprising a non-transitory processor-readable storage medium having stored therein program code of one or more software programs, wherein the program code when executed by at least one processing device causes said at least one processing device:

• to receive a request comprising one or more identifiers of a particular user device detected by at least one access point in communication with the user device;
• to retrieve a profile of the particular user device based at least in part on the one or more identifiers of the request;
• to determine from the retrieved profile contact information of the user device;
• and
• to generate based at least in part on the retrieved profile at least one message requesting at least one privacy-related permission from a user associated with the user device;
• and
• to send the message to the user device over a communication channel determined from the contact information.
