Abstract
The present invention includes compositions and methods for the treatment, softening and removal of ear wax by administering to the ear a solution of a semi-fluorinated alkane according to the formula: RFRH or RFRHRF, wherein RF is a perfluorinated hydrocarbon segment with 20 or less carbon atoms, and RH is a non-fluorinated hydrocarbon segment with 3 to 20 carbon atoms.

A method for the treatment, softening and removal of ear wax by administering to the ear a solution of a semi-fluorinated alkane (SFA) according to the formula:
- RFRH or RFRHRF,
- wherein RF is a perfluorinated hydrocarbon segment with 20 or less carbon atoms, and RH is a non-fluorinated hydrocarbon segment with 3 to 20 carbon atoms.
A composition for the treatment, softening and removal of ear wax by administering to the ear a solution of a semi-fluorinated alkane (SFA) according to the formula:
- RFRH or RFRHRF,
- wherein RF is a perfluorinated hydrocarbon segment with 20 or less carbon atoms, and RH is a non-fluorinated hydrocarbon segment with 3 to 20 carbon atoms, and the composition is adapted for administration to the ear canal.
