Laser-enhanced optical element

A handheld personal care device, comprising:

• a housing;
• at least one light source arranged within the housing, the at least one light source configured to emit light in at least a first direction;
• an optical element comprising an inside surface (A) facing the at least one light source, an outside surface (B) opposite the inside surface, a top surface (C) facing a second direction, different than the first direction, and a bottom surface (D) opposite the top surface, the optical element configured to transmit light from the light source;
• and
• a plurality of laser-induced modifications formed on the top surface (C) or inside the optical element and configured to alter the transmission of light through the optical element.
