Abstract

A method of planning and preparing for a total knee arthroplasty procedure, the method comprising: generating three-dimensional models of a tibia and a femur of a patient; sizing the tibia and the femur to within a range based on the three-dimensional models; selecting a resection tool for each of the tibia and femur based on the three-dimensional models; and packaging the resection tools. A method of planning and preparing for a surgical procedure can comprise: generating a three-dimensional bone model for one or more bones; sizing the one or more bones based on the three-dimensional model; recording a surgical plan based on the three-dimensional bone model; selecting a first surgical tool for the one or more bone based on the surgical plan; and evaluating selection of a second surgical tool based on a performance parameter of the first surgical tool.

Dependent claims

A method for performing a sensor-assisted arthroplasty procedure, the method comprising:

preparing a surgical plan from a three-dimensional reconstruction of a knee joint comprising a femur and a tibia;
selecting a knee prosthesis including a tibial component and a femoral component for attaching to the tibia and the femur based on the surgical plan;
attaching a first sensor-assisted resection guide to the tibia or the femur to perform one of a proximal tibial resection or a distal femoral resection according to the surgical plan;
performing an alignment check with a sensor-assisted distractor to establish tissue balance of the knee joint;
attaching a second sensor-assisted resection guide to the other of the femur or the tibia to perform the other of the distal femoral resection or the proximal tibial resection according to the surgical plan;
and
performing finishing resections of the distal femur based on the surgical plan.
