Heterocyclic liquid crystal composition, reverse-mode polymer dispersed liquid crystal element, and selectively dimmable device

A liquid crystalline composition comprising a compound represented by the following formula:

• wherein the carbazol-diyl is optionally substituted with one or more of:
• C1-6 alkyl, C1-6 alkyloxy, —F, —CF3, or —OCF3;
• Rings A, B, and C are independently optionally substituted 1,4-phenylene or a 1,4-cyclohexane-diyl, wherein the 1,4-phenylene is optionally substituted with one or more of:
• C1-6 alkyl, C1-6 alkyloxy, —F, —CF3, or —OCF3;
• Z1, Z2, and Z3 are independently a bond, —CH2CH2—, —CH2O—, —C(O)O—, —CH═CH—, —C≡C—, —CH2CHF—, —CH2CF2—, —CHFCHF—, —CF2CHF—, —CF2CF2—, —CHFO—, or —CF2O—;
• X is C2-12 alkyl, C2-12 alkyloxy, or —S—C2-12 alkyl;
• Y is —F, —CN, —CF3, —OCF3, —OCF2, —NCS, C1-10 alkyl, or C1-10 alkyloxy;
• n is 0 or 1;
• and
• m is 0 or 1.
