Abstract
A portable information handling system presents visual images at first and second displays integrated in first and second rotationally-coupled housing portions. When the housing portions rotate to a clamshell configuration, a refractive layer in a “DO” display aligns light illuminated from the display off an orthogonal angle and towards a user while a “SEE” display aligns light illuminated from the display along an orthogonal angle.
Claims20
A portable information handling system comprising:
- plural housing portions;
- a hinge rotationally coupling at least a first and second of the plural housing portions to rotate between at least closed and clamshell configurations;
- a processor disposed in the first housing portion and operable to execute instructions that process information;
- a memory disposed in the first housing portion and interfaced with the processor, the memory operable to store the instructions and information;
- an embedded controller interfaced with the processor and operable to manage interactions with input devices;
- a graphics processor interfaced with the processor and operable to process the information to define visual images;
- first and second displays disposed over the first and second housing portions and interfaced with the graphics processor to present the visual images;
- and
- a refractive layer disposed at the first and second displays and interfaced with the embedded controller, the embedded controller operable to detect the clamshell configuration and, in response, to adjust the refractive layer to change the viewing angle at one of the first and second displays selected based upon one or more sensed conditions.
A method for presenting visual images at an information handling system, the method comprising:
- presenting visual images at first and second displays integrated in first and second housing portions;
- detecting the first and second housing portions in a clamshell configuration;
- associating one of the first and second housing portions with a non-orthogonal viewing angle;
- and
- in response to the associating, setting a refractive layer of the one of the first and second housing portions associated with the non-orthogonal viewing angle to refract light off the orthogonal viewing angle.
A system for displaying visual images, the system comprising:
- a first display configured to integrate in a first housing portion;
- a second display configured to integrate in a second housing portion rotationally coupled to the first housing portion;
- a first refractive layer integrated in the first display, the refractive layer having a first setting that presents light at an orthogonal viewing angle relative to the first display and a second setting that presents light off the orthogonal viewing angle;
- and
- an embedded controller interfaced with the first refractive layer and operable to enable the first or second setting based upon one or more predetermined conditions.
