User-interface system for a laundry appliance

An appliance door, comprising:

• a door panel having an outer surface and an inner surface, wherein the door panel defines an elongated channel configured as a handle;
• an audio interface disposed proximate the handle, wherein the audio interface includes a speaker and a microphone printed circuit board assembly having at least one microphone;
• and
• a visual interface coupled to the inner surface of the door, wherein the visual interface is configured to display messages on the outer surface of the door.

A door assembly, comprising:

• a door panel forming a handle;
• a printed circuit board coupled to the door panel proximate the handle;
• a plurality of microphones coupled to the printed circuit board;
• an acoustic layer coupled to the printed circuit board, wherein each microphone aligns with a microphone port aperture defined by the acoustic layer;
• and
• a cover member disposed at least partially within the handle, wherein the cover member is disposed adjacent to the acoustic layer.
