Systems and methods for automatically outputting a reply to a message relating to a media asset a user is currently watching when the user's device is on a do-not-disturb mode

A method of selectively generating alerts, the method comprising:

• receiving, at a first device, a message from a second device;
• and
• while an alert prevention mode is active on the first device:
• determining that the message is related to a prior communication between the first device and the second device;
• and
• in response to the determining, overriding the alert prevention mode, wherein the overriding comprises causing the first device to generate an alert based on the message and the prior communication.

A system for selectively generating alerts, the system comprising:

• communications circuitry configured to transmit and receive data;
• and
• control circuitry, coupled to the communications circuitry, configured to:
• receive, at a first device via the communications circuitry, a message from a second device;
• and
• while an alert prevention mode is active on the first device:
• determine that the message is related to a prior communication between the first device and the second device;
• and
• in response to determining that the message is related to the prior communication, override the alert prevention mode, wherein overriding the alert prevention mode comprises causing the first device to generate an alert based on the message and the prior communication.
