Abstract
Radio frequency communication systems with a combined antenna impedance tuning and antenna multiplexing functionality are provided. In certain embodiments, a packaged radio frequency module includes an antenna multiplexer and an antenna impedance tuner. The module can be configured to provide impedance matching between one or more radio frequency front end modules and an antenna. The antenna impedance tuner can supplement antenna tuning provided by an antenna aperture separately connected to the antenna.
Claims20
A radio frequency module, comprising:
- a front-end signal module port;
- an antenna signal module port;
- an antenna multiplexer including two or more first ports, and a second port coupled to the antenna signal module port, the multiplexer configured to couple the second port to one or more of the first ports;
- and
- an antenna impedance tuner including a front-end side port coupled to the front-end signal module port, a multiplexer-side port coupled to one of the first ports of the antenna multiplexer, and tuning circuitry connected between the front-end side port and the multiplexer-side port and controllable to provide adjustable impedance matching.
A mobile device, comprising:
- an antenna;
- a power amplifier configured to amplify a radio frequency transmit signal;
- a packaged module including a front-end signal module port, an antenna signal module port, an antenna multiplexer, and an antenna impedance tuner, the multiplexer including two or more first ports, and a second port coupled to the antenna signal module port, the multiplexer configured to couple the second port to one or more of the first ports, the impedance tuner including a front-end side port coupled to the front-end signal module port, a multiplexer-side port coupled to one of the first ports of the multiplexer, and tuning circuitry connected between the front-end side port and the multiplexer-side port and controllable to provide adjustable impedance matching between the power amplifier and the antenna.
A radio frequency module, comprising:
- an antenna signal module port;
- a power amplifier configured to amplify a radio frequency transmit signal;
- and
- an antenna multiplexer including two or more first ports, and a second port coupled to the antenna signal module port, the multiplexer configured to couple the second port to one or more of the first ports;
- and
- an antenna impedance tuner including a front end-side port configured to receive the amplified radio frequency transmit signal, a multiplexer-side port coupled to one of the first ports of the antenna multiplexer, and tuning circuitry connected between the front-end side port and the multiplexer-side port and controllable to provide adjustable impedance matching.
