Piezoelectric ceramic and method for manufacturing same, as well as piezoelectric element

A method for manufacturing a piezoelectric ceramic that does not contain lead as a constituent element, the method for manufacturing the piezoelectric ceramic is characterized by including:

• mixing prescribed quantities of bismuth compound powder, sodium compound powder, barium compound powder, titanium compound powder, and manganese compound powder to obtain a mixed powder;
• calcining the mixed powder to obtain a calcined powder;
• compacting the calcined powder into a prescribed shape to obtain a compact;
• and
• sintering the compact to obtain a sintered compact whose primary component is a perovskite compound expressed by a composition formula (Bi0.5−x/2Na0.5−x/2Bax)(Ti1−yMny)O3 (where 0.01≤x≤0.25, 0.001≤y≤0.020);
• wherein the titanium compound powder represents TiO2 with a specific surface area of 10 m2/g or larger.
