A gear selection switch for a motor vehicle, the gear selection switch comprising:
- a piezoelectric sensor element for detecting an actuation of a gear selection switch.
A method for detecting an actuation of a gear selection switch, wherein the gear selection switch comprises a piezoelectric sensor element, said method comprising the following steps:
- reading a sensor signal provided by the piezoelectric sensor element;
- and
- evaluating the sensor signal to detect actuation.
