Abstract

Systems and methods for model-based demand response are disclosed. An analytics server is communicatively connected to a data acquisition component and a virtual system model database. The data acquisition component is operable to acquire and transmit real-time data from a demand response (DR) power network to the analytic server. The virtual system model database is operable to provide a virtual system model of the DR power network. The analytics server is operable to generate predicted data based on the virtual system model of the DR power network and update the virtual system model in real time based on a difference between the predicted data and the real-time data. The analytics server is further operable to optimize DR output of the DR power network to a power grid.

Dependent claims

A system comprising:

(a) an analytics server;
and
(b) one or more memory devices operably connected to the analytics server, wherein the one or more memory devices include computer executable code,
wherein the analytics server executes the computer executable code to perform the following steps:
(1) receiving, by the analytics server from an advanced metering infrastructure system (AMI) associated with an electric power grid, at least one of:
first customer information associated with a plurality of customers associated with the AMI, aggregated telemetry from a plurality of consumer systems associated with the plurality of customers, load forecast information associated with the plurality of customers, or first total available capacity information associated with the electric power grid;
(2) sending, by the analytics server to a market participant system associated with one or more system operators, at least one of the aggregated telemetry, the load forecast information, or the first total available capacity information;
(3) receiving, by the analytics server from the market participant system, a plurality of bids to provide electricity, wherein, the plurality of bids is based on at least one of the aggregated telemetry, the load forecast information or the first total available capacity information;
(4) selecting, by the analytics server, at least one winning bid from the plurality of bids based on at least one of the aggregated telemetry, the load forecast information, and the first total available capacity information;
and
(5) storing, by the analytics server on the one or more memory devices, the at least winning bid as a first award, wherein power is provided to the plurality of customers based the at least one winning bid.

A system comprising:

(a) an analytics server;
(b) one or more memory devices operably connected to the analytics server, the one or more memory devices including computer executable code,
wherein the analytics server executes the computer executable code to perform the following steps:
(1) providing, by the analytics server, a first virtual model of a demand response electric power network, wherein the analytics server is operable to generate first predicted data based on the first virtual model;
(2) receiving, by the analytics server from a data acquisition hub operably connected to the analytics server and a monitored portion of an electric grid, sensor data gathered by at least a first sensor operably connected to the data acquisition hub and associated with the portion of the electric grid;
(3) storing, by the analytics server in the one or more data elements, the sensor data;
(4) processing, by an analytics engine of the analytics server, the sensor data by generating formatted sensor data in a predetermined format;
(5) comparing, by the analytics server, the formatted sensor data to an alarm threshold value;
(6) determining, by the analytics server, whether the formatted sensor data is greater than the alarm threshold value;
(7) in the case where the formatted sensor data is greater than the alarm threshold value, generating, by the analytics server, an alarm message;
(8) transmitting, by the analytics server to the data acquisition hub, the alarm message;
(9) obtaining, by the analytics engine, the first predicted data including at least one first predicted value;
(10) comparing, by the analytics server, the formatted sensor data to at least the first predicted value, wherein comparing the formatted sensor data to at least the first predicted value of the first predicted data comprises determining, by the analytics server, a first difference between the first predicted value and the formatted sensor data, and determining whether the first difference is greater than a predetermined threshold;
and
(11) if the first difference is greater than the predetermined threshold, providing, using a calibration engine of the analytics server, a calibration message indicating an adjustment to the first virtual model,
wherein the analytics server is operable to optimize output of a demand response electric power network to the electric power grid via communication with an advanced metering infrastructure (AMI) for the electric power grid.
