Document feeder and image forming apparatus

A document feeder comprising:

• a document placing tray on which a document is placed;
• a document discharging tray disposed below the document placing tray, the document discharged from a document discharging port along a discharging direction being stacked in the document discharging tray;
• and
• a light source disposed below the document placing tray and radiating light to the document discharging tray, wherein
• the document placing tray includes a cutout portion on an edge that is located downstream in the discharging direction and on a front side of the document feeder in the width direction, and
• the light source is disposed at a position on the document placing tray overlaying the cutout portion in the discharging direction.
