Methods to determine parameters related to phase tracking reference signals (pt-rs) based on a type of radio network temporary identifier (rnti)

A non-transitory computer-readable storage medium that stores instructions for execution by processing circuitry of a Next Generation Node-B (gNB), the operations to configure the processing circuitry to:

• encode a physical uplink control channel (PUCCH) that schedules a physical uplink shared channel (PUSCH),
• wherein the processing circuitry is further configured to scramble a cyclic redundancy check (CRC) of the PUCCH by a radio network temporary identifier (RNTI);
• determine whether the PUSCH is to include phase tracking reference signals (PT-RSs) based at least partly on the RNTI that scrambles the CRC of the PUCCH,
• wherein if the RNTI is a modulation coding scheme (MCS) cell RNTI (MCS-C-RNTI), a cell RNTI (C-RNTI), a configured scheduling RNTI (CS-RNTI), or a semi-persistent (SP) channel state information (CSI) RNTI (SP-CSI-RNTI):
• the processing circuitry is configured to determine that one or more PT-RSs are present in the PUSCH,
• wherein if the RNTI is not the MCS-C-RNTI, the C-RNTI, the CS-RNTI, or the SP-CSI-RNTI:
• the processing circuitry is configured to determine that PT-RSs are not present in the PUSCH.

An apparatus of a User Equipment (UE), the apparatus comprising:

• memory;
• and processing circuitry, configured to:
• decode radio resource control (RRC) signaling that configures an uplink grant, wherein the RRC signaling is configurable to indicate a port association parameter related to an association between antenna ports of phase tracking reference signals (PT-RSs) and demodulation reference signals (DM-RSs);
• decode signaling that configures one or more antenna ports for the DM-RSs;
• determine an antenna port for the PT-RSs based at least partly on a predetermined mapping between the port association parameter and antenna ports scheduled for the DM-RSs,
• wherein the memory is configured to store at least a portion of the RRC signaling.
