Abstract
A propulsion system for an aircraft or other vehicle can include an electric motor with a rotor and a stator. A cooling arrangement for the electric motor can include one or more of: a heat sink that is disposed within an internal area of the motor and that supports, within the internal area, one or more power-electronic components for operation of the electric motor; and a plurality of flow channels that are formed along at least one of the rotor and the stator. The flow channels can be arranged to route ambient air past the at least one of the rotor and the stator during operation of the aircraft or other vehicle.
Claims20
A propulsion system for an aircraft or other vehicle, the propulsion system comprising:
- an electric motor that includes a rotor and a stator, the stator being arranged radially inwardly from the rotor and defining an internal area that is radially inward from the stator;
- a cooling arrangement that includes:
- a heat sink that is disposed within the internal area and supports, within the internal area, one or more power-electronic components for operation of the electric motor;
- and
- a plurality of flow channels that are formed along the stator, the flow channels being arranged to route ambient air past the stator during operation of the aircraft or other vehicle.
