Abstract
An apparatus for manipulating a material is provided. The apparatus may comprise one or more stator coils arranged in a three-dimensional configuration, and a surface on which at least one carrier is configured to move. The stator coils of the apparatus may be configured to generate an electromagnetic field for driving the carrier on the surface to manipulate a material.
Claims20
An apparatus comprising:
- a magnetic device arranged in a three-dimensional configuration;
- and
- a surface on which at least one carrier is configured to move,
- wherein the magnetic device is configured to provide a magnetic field for driving the carrier on the surface to manipulate a material,
- wherein the magnetic field is modulated to drive the carrier to manipulate the material to form an object, wherein the object is selected from a group consisting of a three-dimensional braided structure, a three-dimensional printed structure, and a three-dimensional assembled structure, and
- wherein the magnetic device is selected from a group consisting of stator coils having different spacings between the coils, movable permanent magnets, and switchable permanent magnets.

A method of actuating a carrier, comprising:
- providing a magnetic device arranged in a three-dimensional configuration;
- providing a surface on which the carrier is configured to move;
- and
- driving the carrier on the surface to manipulate a material, via a magnetic field provided by the magnetic device, wherein the carrier is driven on the surface to manipulate the material to form an object, wherein the object is selected from a group consisting of a three-dimensional braided structure, a three-dimensional printed structure, and a three-dimensional assembled structure, and wherein the magnetic device is selected from a group consisting of stator coils having different spacings between the coils, movable permanent magnets, and switchable permanent magnets.
