Method and Apparatus for Transmitting and Receiving Uplink Control Information in Carrier Aggregation Environment

A method of transmitting uplink control information in a carrier aggregation environment, the method comprising:

• at a user equipment device (UE):
• determining n pieces of Hybrid Automatic Repeat request (HARQ) response data, wherein the n pieces of HARQ response data are responsive to data channel receptions through n respective downlink component carriers;
• wherein each of the n pieces of HARQ response data are either configured as 1 bit corresponding to one codeword or as 2 bits corresponding to two codewords based on the transmission scheme configured for the corresponding downlink component carrier;
• determining k bits of integrated response data by combining the n pieces of response data in serial according to a sequence preset for downlink component carriers;
• performing a coding of the integrated response data to produce encoded integrated response data, and transmitting the encoded integrated response data to a base station.

An apparatus for operating a user equipment device (UE) in a carrier aggregation environment, the apparatus comprising:

• a processor configured to cause the UE to:
• determine n pieces of Hybrid Automatic Repeat request (HARQ) response data, wherein the n pieces of HARQ response data are responsive to data channel receptions through n respective downlink component carriers, wherein each of the n pieces of HARQ response data are either configured as 1 bit corresponding to one codeword or as 2 bits corresponding to two codewords based on the transmission scheme configured for the corresponding downlink component carrier;
• determine k bits of integrated response data by combining the n pieces of response data in serial according to a sequence preset for downlink component carriers;
• perform a coding of the integrated response data to produce encoded integrated response data, and transmitting the encoded integrated response data to a base station.
