Presenting visual media

A non-transitory computer readable storage medium having computer readable program code stored thereon for causing a computer system to perform a method for presenting visual media, the method comprising:

• receiving a text string comprising communication between a first user using a messaging application at a first electronic device and a second user using the messaging application at a second electronic device;
• analyzing the text string to identify a sentiment of the communication;
• automatically selecting visual media representative of the sentiment;
• and
• displaying the visual media representative of the sentiment within the messaging application and proximate the communication.

A computer system comprising:

• a data storage unit;
• and
• a processor coupled with the data storage unit, the processor configured to:
• receive a text string comprising communication between a first user using a messaging application at a first electronic device and a second user using the messaging application at a second electronic device;
• analyze the text string to identify a sentiment of the communication comprising:
• identify a plurality of sentiments and a confidence level for each of the plurality of sentiments;
• select the sentiment from the plurality of sentiments based at least in part on the confidence level for each of the plurality of sentiments;
• and
• identify at least one item of visual media corresponding to the selected sentiment;
• automatically select visual media representative of the sentiment from the at least one item of visual media;
• and
• display the visual media representative of the sentiment within the messaging application and proximate the communication.
