System for providing applications on an automated teller machine (atm)

A method for verifying an application for an automated teller machine (ATM), the method comprising:

• receiving, at an application distribution system, an application package for an application to be installed on the ATM, the application associated with a third-party service and configured to access one or more peripherals of the ATM using an application programming interface (API) of the ATM, the one or more peripherals including a cash deposit mechanism;
• installing, from the application package, the application within a testing environment;
• verifying, with the testing environment, one or more operations performed on the ATM and by the application, the operations performed by the application including:
• authenticating, using an ATM authentication mechanism, a user accessing the ATM;
• accessing, via the API, the one or more peripherals of the ATM, the accessing including accessing the cash deposit mechanism;
• and
• sending, to a service system associated with the third-party service, a payment;
• and
• initiating, by the application distribution system and via a network, an installation of the application on the ATM.

A system, comprising:

• a processor;
• a cash deposit mechanism that is coupled to the processor and that is accessible via an application programming interface (API);
• a user interface that is operatively coupled to the processor;
• and
• a memory, coupled to the processor, that stores instructions, which when executed by the processor, cause the processor to perform operations, the operations comprising:
• installing an application associated with a third-party service on an operating system of the system, wherein the application can access the cash deposit mechanism via the API;
• authenticating a user accessing the system to verify that the user has an account with the third-party service, wherein authenticating the user comprises a cardless authentication;
• providing, to the user via the user interface, an indication that the application is available for use on the system;
• initiating, in response to one or more inputs from the user via the user interface, an operation to make a purchase of a good or service using the application wherein the application comprises an online retail application;
• accessing, by the application and via the API, the cash deposit mechanism allowing the user to deposit cash for the purchase;
• and
• sending, to a service system associated with the application, a payment as part of a process to complete the purchase.
