Abstract
One aspect of the present disclosure relates to a method for predicting the response of a patient having rectal cancer to neoadjuvant chemoradiation therapy. The method can include determining a DNA repair score. The DNA repair score can be based on DNA repair genes whose expression levels are associated with a response to neoadjuvant chemoradiation. A low DNA repair score as compared to a predetermined threshold value is indicative of a poor response to the neoadjuvant chemoradiation therapy.
Claims16
A method for predicting the response of a patient having rectal cancer to neoadjuvant chemoradiation therapy (nCRT) comprising determining a DNA repair score, where a low DNA repair score as compared to a predetermined threshold value is indicative of a poor response to the nCRT.
A method for treating a patient having rectal cancer, the method comprising:
- determining a DNA repair score of the patient;
- and
- administering a rectal cancer treatment, other than neoadjuvant chemoradiation therapy (nCRT), if the patient's DNA repair score is low as compared to a predetermined threshold value indicative of a poor response to nCRT.
