Abstract
An apparatus for personalized lighting systems, including a power supply, a number of solid state lights connected to the power supply, a number of switches, each connected to one of the solid state lights and operable to switchably block electrical current from the power supply through an associated one of the solid state lights, and a clock generator connected to the switches and configured to activate the switches.

An apparatus for providing light, comprising:
- a power supply;
- a solid state light connected to the power supply;
- a switch connected in series with the solid state light, operable when open to block electrical current through the solid state light;
- a current sensor connected to the solid state light;
- and
- a comparator operable to compare a measurement from the current sensor with a reference value and to control the switch in response to a result of the comparison.

An apparatus for providing light, comprising:
- a power supply;
- a control module connected to the power supply;
- and
- a plurality of solid state light modules, each comprising at least one sensor for detecting whether a user is near the solid state light module, wherein the control module is adapted to sequentially change an illumination state of the plurality of solid state light modules to signal a direction.
