Method and apparatus for improving synchronization in wireless communication system

A method of a terminal in a wireless communication system, the method comprising:

• receiving, from a base station, a synchronization block;
• performing decoding for a symbol of the received synchronization block in which a primary synchronization signal (PSS) is transmitted;
• and
• determining a cell ID based on a specific signal in case that the specific signal is detected during the decoding.

Abase station in a wireless communication system, the base station comprising:

• a transceiver;
• and
• a controller configured to:
• identify, in a synchronization block to be generated, a resource to which a signal related to the synchronization block is not mapped,
• determine whether to map a specific signal to the identified resource, and
• transmit, to a terminal, the synchronization block generated based on a result of the determination.

A terminal in a wireless communication system, the terminal comprising:

• a transceiver;
• and
• a controller configured to:
• control the transceiver to receive, from a base station, a synchronization block,
• perform decoding for a symbol of the received synchronization block in which a primary synchronization signal (PSS) is transmitted, and
• determine a cell ID based on a specific signal in case that the specific signal is detected during the decoding.
