Motion Information Storage for Video Coding and Signaling

A system of inter-coding comprising:

• storing in an encoder memory motion information associated with a collocated picture set;
• storing in said encoder memory motion information associated with a current coding unit;
• updating said encoder memory with motion information associated with said collocated picture set with motion information associated with said current coding unit, if it is determined that said motion information associated with said collocated picture set is to be updated with said motion information associated with said current coding unit;
• and
• encoding said current coding unit;
• wherein said encoded current coding unit includes an indicator identifying whether said motion information associated with said current coding unit is used to update said motion information associated with said collocated picture set.
