Brushless DC Motor Control System and Method of Configuring the Same

A brushless DC motor system comprising:

• a brushless DC motor having phases;
• a controller in communication with the motor, wherein the controller has nodes;
• and
• phase wires electrically coupling the motor and the controller at the nodes to form wire-to-node connections for establishing electrical communication paths between the motor and controller along each phase wire, wherein each phase wire corresponds to one phase of the motor,
• wherein the controller is programmed to (i) in response to a first user-selected configuration of the wire-to-node connections, generate a first commutation table, and (ii) in response to a second user-selected configuration of the wire-to-node connections, generate a second commutation table different from the first commutation table, and wherein the motor is operable in accordance with the first and second commutation tables.
