Abstract
Motorized cartridges and coordinate measuring machines having motorized cartridges are provided. The motorized cartridges include a cartridge housing having a shaft passing therethrough, a measurement probe coupled to shaft and arranged to detect movement of the shaft, and an integrated motor operably coupled to the shaft and arranged to drive movement of the shaft.
Claims31
A motorized cartridge for coordinate measuring machines, the motorized cartridge comprising:
- a cartridge housing having a shaft passing therethrough;
- a measurement probe coupled to shaft and arranged to detect movement of the shaft;
- and
- an integrated motor operably coupled to the shaft and arranged to drive movement of the shaft.
A coordinate measuring system comprising:
- a coordinate measuring device;
- and
- a motorized cartridge having a cartridge housing having a shaft passing therethrough, a measurement probe coupled to shaft and arranged to detect movement of the shaft, and an integrated motor operably coupled to the shaft and arranged to drive movement of the shaft;
- wherein the coordinate measuring device is mounted to at least one of the cartridge housing and the shaft such that movement of the shaft imparts movement to the coordinate measuring device.
A coordinate measurement system comprising:
- a rotary stage having a platen that rotates about an axis, the platen configured to hold a manufactured dental restoration;
- one or more noncontact 3D measurement devices, configured to measure 3D coordinates of points on the dental restoration;
- and
- one or more processors configured to measure and store in memory the 3D coordinates.
A method comprising:
- providing a system having at least one noncontact three-dimensional (3D) measuring device, and a rotation portion configured to rotate about a first axis the at least one 3D measuring device;
- providing a rotation stage configured to rotate a dental restoration about a second axis;
- with one or more processors, executing executable instructions causing the rotation portion to rotate the 3D measuring device about the second axis;
- with the one or more processors, executing executable instructions further causing the rotation stage to rotate an object that includes a dental restoration;
- with the noncontact 3D measuring device, measuring 3D coordinates of a point on the object;
- and
- with the one or more processors, executing executable instructions storing the measured 3D coordinates.
A method comprising:
- milling a collection of dental restorations on a milling machine according to dimensions provided in a computer aided design (CAD) model;
- measuring three-dimensional (3D) coordinates of points on the dental restorations with at least one noncontact 3D measuring system having a noncontact #D measurement device and a rotation stage configured to rotate the dental restorations;
- with a processor, comparing the measured 3D coordinates to target 3D coordinates in the CAD model;
- and
- storing the measured 3D coordinates.
A method comprising:
- creating a collection of dental restorations;
- mounting the dental restorations to a rotary stage;
- with a processor, causing the following steps to be automatically performed a plurality of times:
- rotating the rotary stage;
- changing the relative position of at least one noncontact 3D measuring device and the collection of dental restorations;
- projecting a pattern of light onto the dental restorations with the noncontact 3D measuring device;
- capturing an image of the pattern of light on the object with an image sensor associated with the 3D measuring device;
- and determining 3D coordinates for the dental restorations based at least in part on the projected pattern and the capture image;
- with the processor, registering the measured 3D coordinates in a coordinate system of the collection of dental restorations;
- with the processor, comparing the registered 3D coordinates of the dental restorations to a computer-aided design (CAD) model of the collection of dental restorations and determining whether the registered 3D coordinates are within allowed tolerances;
- and
- indicating to a user whether the registered 3D coordinates are within the allowed tolerances.
