Pump valve with seal retaining structure

A valve component, comprising:

• a disc shaped body;
• a sealing element disposed within an annular retaining recess formed around an outer circumference of the disc shaped body;
• and
• a plurality of passages formed from the recess to an outer surface of the body.

A method of forming a seal on a valve component, comprising:

• flowing a precursor material into a peripheral recess formed around the circumference of a disc shaped body, wherein one or more passages extend from the recess to an outer surface of the disc shaped body;
• evacuating gas from the recess through the passages while flowing the precursor material into the recess;
• and
• curing the precursor material to form the seal.
