System and method for constant online water quality & safety monitoring of a fluid system

A method for monitoring water quality in a water supply network, the method comprising:

• providing a plurality of sensor units at predefined locations along the water supply network
• generating a detected value by each sensor indicative of a parameter of water at the location of the sensor;
• communicating said detected values from said each of said plurality of sensor units to a computer server in real-time;
• analyzing said detected values at said computer server in order to detect changes in quality of water moving between said sensor units;
• comparing by said computer of said communicated detected values from sequentially located sensor units to expected changes in said sensor values based on a flow velocity and propagation of said detected values between said sequentially located sensor units;
• and
• sending an alerts to a user interface when a localized abnormality deviation is determined at one or more of said sequentially located sensor units relative to said expected changes.

A monitoring system for a water supply network, the system comprising:

• a main sensor unit located at an outlet from a water source of the water supply network;
• a plurality of sub-units sequentially located within the water supply network;
• a processing facility in electronic communication with said main sensor unit and said plurality of sub-units, said processing facility configured to receive sensor values communicated from said main and sub unit and said processing facility comprising a processor and non-transient memory having computer-readable instructions stored thereon instructing said processor to:
• comparing said received sensor values from each of said sub units with said main sensor unit;
• further comparing said received sensor values from each of said sub units to a remainder of said sub units;
• matching results of said comparing and said further comparing and flow rates between said main unit and said sub-units to a plurality of contamination signatures stored in said non-transient memory, each said contamination signature including an expected propagation of sensed parameters in response to a type of contamination event;
• and
• issue a contamination alert when said results match said signature.
