Abstract
Monitoring of quality of service includes monitoring the quality measured at the radio modem based on measurements in the physical layer and monitoring of the network state by the physical layer or a higher layer wherein the monitoring entity bypasses one or more intermediate layers and directly accesses the physical layer, which provides the necessary information.

A method for monitoring the quality of a data connection, wherein the data about a radio channel subject to interference in a cell of a transmission network are transmitted to at least one mobile subscriber station, wherein the state of the data connection is monitored in the subscriber station in a monitoring module as part of an application program in the application layer at least based on measurements in the physical layer, and that the measurements in the physical layer are passed on directly to the application layer without passing through one or more intermediate layers or are collected by the application layer from the layer providing the measurements, wherein information about the state of the transmission network is also taken into consideration for the state assessment in the monitoring module.
A subscriber station for use in a method for monitoring the quality of a data connection, wherein the data about a radio channel subject to interference in a cell of a transmission network are transmitted to at least one mobile subscriber station, wherein the state of the data connection is monitored in the subscriber station in a monitoring module as part of an application program in the application layer at least based on measurements in the physical layer, and that the measurements in the physical layer are passed on directly to the application layer without passing through one or more intermediate layers or are collected by the application layer from the layer providing the measurements, wherein information about the state of the transmission network is also taken into consideration for the state assessment in the monitoring module,
- the subscriber station further comprising a monitoring module monitoring the state of the data connection at least based on measurements in the physical layer, wherein the monitoring module is part of the application program on the application layer, and collects the information regarding the current state of the connection directly from the layer providing the measurements without passing through one or more intermediate layers or assembles the information from the layer providing the measurements, wherein the monitoring module collects information regarding the state of the transmission network from the layer providing the network state information or assembles the information from the layer delivering the network state information and performs a state assessment for the data connection based on at least the measurements in the physical layer and the information about the state of the transmission network.
A network management unit for use in a method for monitoring the quality of a data connection, wherein the data about a radio channel subject to interference in a cell of a transmission network are transmitted to at least one mobile subscriber station, wherein the state of the data connection is monitored in the subscriber station in a monitoring module as part of an application program in the application layer at least based on measurements in the physical layer, and that the measurements in the physical layer are passed on directly to the application layer without passing through one or more intermediate layers or are collected by the application layer from the layer providing the measurements, wherein information about the state of the transmission network is also taken into consideration for the state assessment in the monitoring module,
- the network management unit further comprising a unit for monitoring the network state, wherein the unit for monitoring the network state sends particular information about the network state to one or more subscriber stations for receiver-end appraisal of the quality state of the network.
