Abstract
The disclosure pertains to methods and apparatus for transmitting uplink data to a wireless network asynchronously comprising generating data for transmission to the network on an uplink shared channel (UL-SCH) transport channel, selecting between transmitting the data to the network orthogonally or non-orthogonally, and transmitting the data on the selected physical channel.

A Wireless Transmit Receive Unit (WTRU) for transmitting payload data to a wireless network comprising:
- a transmitter;
- a receiver;
- and
- a processor configured to generate payload data for uplink transmission to the network;
- the processor further configured to select between transmitting the payload data to the network on a synchronous physical uplink channel (PUSCH) or an asynchronous physical uplink channel (PAUSCH) and to transmit the payload data on the selected physical channel.
