Abstract
A device may be configured to receive a low level signaling emergency alert message fragment from a broadcast stream. The device may parse syntax elements included in the emergency alert message fragment. The device may determine whether to retrieve a media resource associated with the emergency alert message based on the parsed syntax elements.

- A primary device for sending an emergency alert message, the primary device comprising:
- a network interface that receives the emergency alert message and sends the emergency alert message to a companion device in a local area network;
- wherein the emergency alert message includes (i) a language field, (ii) a media description field and (iii) a media content type field,
- the language field is represented by formal natural language identifiers as defined by Best Current Practice 47 and not exceed 35 characters,
- a first string in the media description field describes a content of a media resource, and
- a second string in the media content type field represents MIME type of media content referenced by an uri field included in the emergency alert message,
- wherein a language of the media description field is inferred to be same as a language indicated in the language field.
