Alert modification based on social media activity

A computer system, comprising:

• a processor;
• a memory device coupled to the processor;
• and
• a computer readable storage device coupled to the processor, wherein the storage device contains program code executable by the processor via the memory device to implement a method for alert modification based on a social media activity of a user, the method comprising:
• receiving, by a processor of a computing system, an incoming notification message from a notification source positioned within a venue;
• identifying, by the processor, a content of the incoming notification message, in response to receiving the incoming notification message;
• analyzing, by the processor, the social media activity of the user to determine that the content of the incoming notification message is relevant to the social media activity of the user;
• modifying, by the processor, a default alert preference based on the relevancy between the incoming notification message and the social media activity of the user so that the user is alerted to the incoming notification message in accordance with a modified alert preference;
• and
• alerting, by the processor, the user of the incoming notification message in accordance with the modified alert preference.

A computer program product, comprising a computer readable hardware storage device storing a computer readable program code, the computer readable program code comprising an algorithm that when executed by a computer processor of a computing system implements a method for alert modification based on a social media activity of a user, the method comprising:

• receiving, by a processor of a computing system, an incoming notification message from a notification source positioned within a venue;
• identifying, by the processor, a content of the incoming notification message, in response to receiving the incoming notification message;
• analyzing, by the processor, the social media activity of the user to determine that the content of the incoming notification message is relevant to the social media activity of the user;
• modifying, by the processor, a default alert preference based on the relevancy between the incoming notification message and the social media activity of the user so that the user is alerted to the incoming notification message in accordance with a modified alert preference;
• and
• alerting, by the processor, the user of the incoming notification message in accordance with the modified alert preference.
