A non-transitory computer readable storage medium, including instructions stored thereon for supporting resource quotas for multicast group creation and membership in a high performance computing environment, which when read and executed by one or more computers cause the one or more computers to perform steps comprising:
- providing, at one or more computers, including one or more microprocessors, a first subnet, the first subnet comprising
- a plurality of switches of the first subnet,
- a plurality of end nodes of the first subnet, wherein the plurality of end nodes of the first subnet are interconnected via the plurality of switches of the first subnet,
- a subnet manager of the first subnet, the subnet manager running on one of the plurality of switches of the first subnet, and
- an inter-subnet manager (ISM) of the first subnet, the inter-subnet manager of the first subnet running on one of the plurality of switches of the first subnet;
- configuring a switch port on a switch of the plurality of switches of the first subnet as a router port, the router port comprising a first router map capacity;
- interconnecting the first subnet with a second subnet via the switch port configured as a router port;
- assigning an end node of the plurality of end nodes of the first subnet to an inter-subnet partition (ISP) of a plurality of inter-subnet partitions;
- and
- assigning, by the subnet manager to the ISP of the plurality of inter-subnet partitions, a quota of multicast groups, the assigned quota of multicast groups being based at least on the first router map capacity.
