Expanded Refresh Rates for a Display Service

A method comprising:

• receiving, by a graphics driver, a request for a first refresh rate that is not supported by a display monitor;
• determining, by the graphics driver, a second refresh rate that is supported by the display monitor;
• masking, by the graphics driver, a plurality of interrupts generated by display hardware at the second refresh rate;
• generating a plurality of emulated interrupts at the requested first refresh rate;
• and
• providing the plurality of emulated interrupts to an operating system in place of the masked interrupts.

An article comprising a non-transitory machine-readable storage medium storing instructions that upon execution cause a processor to:

• receive a request for a first refresh rate that is not supported by a display device;
• in response to the received request, determine a second refresh rate that is supported by the display device;
• mask interrupts generated by display hardware at the second refresh rate;
• and
• provide, at the requested first refresh rate, emulated interrupts to an operating system in place of the masked interrupts generated by the display hardware.
