Abstract
Described are methods and systems for accessing shared communal objects. A physical object container holds and protects the objects, keeping them secure and protected for future use. The object container senses the state and status of the objects contained within it. The object container is only openable by authorized users. An information infrastructure backend coordinates the scheduling and usage of objects stored within the object container.
Claims20
A system for providing access to stored objects, the system comprising:
- a tamper-proof, weather-proof housing configured to store one or more objects;
- an object-specific insert located within the housing and configured to support the one or more objects within the housing;
- one or more sensors configured to monitor the one or more objects;
- an electronic locking system configured to secure the housing;
- and
- a radio frequency communication device configured to receive access commands from a remote system channeled through an intermediary wireless device within a given proximity to the housing;
- and
- a controller having a processor configured to activate or deactivate the electronic locking system upon receipt of an access command, and to determine whether each of the one or more objects is located within the housing.
A method for unlocking an object container, the method comprising:
- storing a secret key in a memory in the object container;
- storing the secret key in a memory in an authentication server;
- generating a nonce in the object container;
- transmitting the nonce from the object container to the authentication server;
- in the authentication server, generating a first public key based on the nonce and the private key;
- transmitting the first public key to the object container;
- in the object container, generating a second public key based on the nonce and the private key;
- in the object container, comparing the first public key and the second public key;
- in response to determining that the first public key and the second public key are identical, unlocking the object container.
A method for matching users of objects, the method comprising:
- detecting a first user in a geographical area associated with an object container containing one or more objects;
- detecting a second user in the geographical area;
- matching the first user with the second user and creating a reservation defining a period of time for the first user and the second user to use the one or more objects;
- in response to a request from the first user to unlock the object container, unlocking the object container to make available the one or more objects.
