Techniques for stereoscopic online web content creation and rendering

A remote server configured to receive a request from a computing apparatus that includes a browser operable to (i) receive intermediate source code generated by the remote server and (ii) based on the basis of an extended source code instruction set and the received intermediate source code from the remote server, to render a stereoscopic webpage of the 2D webpage, the remote server comprising:

• means for retrieving the HTML code of the 2D webpage;
• means for analyzing the HTML tag elements in the HTML code of the 2D webpage to identify relevant HTML tag elements, where identifying relevant HTML tag elements is not based solely on an analysis of the objects in the 2D webpage;
• means for retrieving a set of stereoscopic indicators and applying them to the identified relevant HTML tag elements to generate new tag elements, where each new tag element includes depth cues the properties and arithmetic values of which are derived from stereo annotated convention rules which when placed in the HTML code of the 2D webpage allows the extended source code instruction set in the browser of the requesting computing apparatus to render the 2D webpage as a pair of stereoscopic images;
• and
• transmitting the HTML code of the 2D webpage together with the generated new HTML tag elements as the intermediate source code to the requesting computing apparatus.
