Precise control of suction damping device in a variable displacement compressor

A variable displacement compressor comprising:

• an electrically controlled valve configured to selectively control an angle of inclination of a swashplate of the variable displacement compressor;
• and
• a suction damping device including a rotor having a rotational axis, an aperture extending through the rotor in a direction transverse to the rotational axis, the rotor selectively rotated about the rotational axis based on a condition of the electrically controlled valve to control a flow of a fluid through the aperture of the rotor.

A method of operating a suction dampening device of a variable displacement compressor, the method comprising:

• providing a suction damping device including a rotor having a rotational axis, an aperture extending through the rotor in a direction transverse to the rotational axis;
• and
• selectively rotating the rotor about the rotational axis thereof based on a condition of an electrically controlled valve of the variable displacement compressor to control a flow of a fluid through the suction damping device.
