Solidified, conformable porous composites and related devices, methods, and uses

An energy storage device comprising a solidified, conformable porous composite having interconnected pores and comprising thermally-expanded polymer microspheres and a particulate filler material.

A method of making a solidified, conformable porous composite in which no solvent is introduced into and extracted from the composite in the formation of pores, the method comprising:

• placing a mixture of expandable polymer microspheres and a particulate filler material in a confined volumetric space;
• and
• heating the mixture in the confined volumetric space to sufficiently expand the polymer microspheres to thereby bond the thermally-expanded polymer microspheres the particulate filler material within the confined volumetric space and form a solidified, conformable porous composite with interconnected pores.
